ABRC
Road Racing & Training
Road
cycling is a main attraction to our region and anyone
who participates in our club training rides or races
will likely agree. The area offers a variety of terrain.
There are flat riverside routes perfect for sprint intervals
and time trial workouts, gradual climbing routes of
30-40K, and for the climbers, knee-breaking grades of
18-20% with names like "The Wall" and "The Elevator
Shaft"! Light traffic and fantastic scenery add to the
attraction, so it is easy to see why Lance Armstrong, George Hincapie, Greg LeMond, John Leiswyn, Jonas Carney, Justin England and
others have favored riding here.
Our
road-racing scene has plenty of talent to challenge
all levels. The starting line of our Hometrust Bank /French
Broad Cycling Classic Omnium consistently fields many national
level riders.
National
rankings and cycling celebs aside, ABRC's road venues
have much to offer. With a large (90+) membership base,
the club offers a wealth of experience and informal
training rides are always being organized by some member
of the club. Check the ABRC
bulletin board for more up-to-date information and
additional rides.
