Member Responsibilities
As a volunteer organization, ABRC needs the active participation of its members to make it work. ABRC members are expected to be involved in racing and/or other support roles. This includes attending meetings, riding with the Club, volunteering for race duties, mentoring beginning riders and always riding in a responsible, courteous manner. Remember: when you are wearing a Club jersey, you're representing all ABRC members and our sponsors.
Membership Categories
The Club has a tiered membership and benefits system aimed to promote racing wearing the Club's jersey and membership participation. The membership levels and definitions are as follows:
- Members: Any individual that joins the Club, stays current with their membership, obeys the Club by-laws, and participates in events wearing the Club jersey. Individuals can sign up as "Racing Member",
(a "Racing Member" will race solely for ABRC, wear the ABRC uniform, and claim ABRC on their USCA/NOBRA license. Exception to this rule shall include Collegiate athletes/students. College students shall be allowed to race for both school and ABRC and can participate in the payout system. Use of the payout system shall apply to non-collegiate events and where the student is wearing the ABRC jersey.), "Dual Team Member", (a "Dual Team Member" is an ABRC member who races for another team which is claimed on their USCA/NOBRA license, and will wear that team's uniforms in sanctioned races. These members will not participate in the ABRC club payout, but can receive discounts provided to ABRC members (multi-sport team affiliations would be included in this category).), or "Patron Member" (a "Patron Member" is an ABRC member who does not plan to participate in any sanctioned race, or hold a current USCA/NOBRA license; however they may participate in all other areas of ABRC and receive discounts provided to ABRC members.) .
- Associate: Associates are "active" members within the Club, attend and volunteer at one or more Club sponsored events, and stay current with their membership. Members that wish to make a monetary donation/contribution in excess of $100, but less than $500, will also be classified as "associate" members.
- Associate Plus: Associates are "very active" members within the Club, stay current with their membership, get involved and help out with Club operations/activities (Officer level and above) and/or compete in at least 10 USAC/ATRA events (weekend events only) in a calendar year. Payout System
Asheville Bicycle Racing Club allocates a certain amount of cash flow to the payout system on an annual basis based on the financial assets of the Club.
2010 Payout System Description:
Amount allocated for 2010 is $5,000.
A portion of the payout amount will go towards entry fee reimbursement ($3,000) and part will go towards performance rewards ($2,000). The Club will pay these amounts at the end of the year.
Part A. Fee reimbursement:
If we exceed the allocated amount, the Club will apply an adjustment factor and pay the appropriate amount to each member. For example, if we allocate $3000 for fee reimbursement and we have $5000 in requests, we will pay each member 3/5 of the amount requested. So, for example, if you have asked for $100 in fee reimbursements, you will receive $60.
Fee reimbursement will apply to the local events of Ring of Fire and Track Series too. It won't include the Time Trial series organized by the Club. Club members holding a valid USAC license can enter the TT Series events for FREE. Fee reimbursement for local "cookie" rides and for events outside our immediate area (to include TN, NC, SC, GA) shall only cover half the entry fee amount. Exception to the rule will be for participating in a USAC National championship event. The maximum limit for an individual entry fee is not to exceed $100.00. Please contact the Club (gemarios@charter.net) if you have any questions.
Part B. Performance Rewards:
Team Participation Award:
The Club will pay the amount of $60 for a top 3 finish in a USAC event (road, cyclocross, MTB, or Track) that takes place on a weekend (not a weekday event), unless there is an event on Friday that is part of an Omnium. Qualifying events need to have more than 10 racers finishing in the category. Exceptions to this rule shall be considered on a case by case scenario. This prime amount shall be awarded to the top 3 finisher and the amount shall be equally distributed among all the Club racers participating and finishing the race in that category. This award is provided to emphasize team work among the Club racers.
The prime amount will be set to $100 for a top 3 finish in the French Broad Cycling Classic event.
Individual Award(s):
An additional special award of $100 (in addition to the $60 awarded for the team) shall be given to the member of the Club for a top 10 finish in a USAC National championship event or a top 3 finish in a USAC State championship event.
At the end of the year, the top 5 finishers (in order of race participation) shall receive the following primes during the Club’s year-end party; $200 for first place, $150 for second, $100 for 3rd, $80 for 4th and $60 for 5th place. The Cup will also be awarded to the first place person.
The dollar amount not used from the performance rewards portion shall be thrown into the fee reimbursement portion and allocated accordingly at the end of the year.
To be eligible to participate in the payout system, each member shall be required to submit their race results after each event (within 30 days of the event) and volunteer to one of the Club events.
